ABOUT BOMET COUNTY

Bomet County is located in the former Rift Valley Province bordering Kericho County to the North and North East, Narok County to the South East, South, and South West, and Nyamira County to the North West. The county, listed electoral number 36, has Bomet town as its administrative center and covers a total area of 1,997.90 Sq Km.

His Excellency Isaac Rutto, EGH, who is also the Chairman of The Council of Governors, is serving his first term as the governor of the county and is deputized by His Excellency Stephen Mutai. As per the 2009 National Census, the county had a total population of 730,129 of which 49% were males while 51% were females.

Bomet County has five electoral constituencies thus:

  2. Bomet Central Constituency
  3. Bomet East Constituency
  4. Chepalungu Constituency
  5.  Konoin Constituency

He hails from Chepalungu Sub-County, Sigor Ward, Tumoi area.

    He studied Political Science at the University of Nairobi and has a wealth of experience in public service spanning three decades. Isaac Ruto, progressive leader and a firm believer in devolution of resources to the grassroots and bottom-up decision making process, was elected the first chairman of the Council of Governors, Kenya which he served for two terms. As a parliamentarian, he distinguished himself as a fierce debater and played a major role in the making of the Kenyan 2010 constitution. During his two terms as Chepalungu MP, he helped set up many schools and constructed many roads in rural areas.

    He is remembered for the many day secondary schools that he initiated. As a governor, his signature achievements so far is improvement of health care in the county, education bursaries for needy students, monthly stipends for the old and people with severe disabilities, improvement of road networks in rural areas, the cheapest AI services in the country and the construction of a modern 3rd largest stadium in Kenya. He is undoubtedly the biggest voice in South Rift and a leading champion of devolution in the country.
