Mandera County is one of the 47 counties in Kenya, located in the North Eastern part of Kenya and borders Ethiopia to the North, Somalia Republic to the East and Wajir County to the South. It is about 1,100km from the capital city of Nairobi by road.

Economic Activities
Nomadic pastoralism is the major economic activity in the in the county with camels,goats,sheeps&cattle being the main type of livestock reared. The region vast pasture land has allowed this activity to be viable.
The main water sources in the region are river Daua a number of shallow wells and few major earth pans. The region has small scale agriculture production with small scale horticulture producers supplying Mangoes, pawpaw, onions, kales and Banana to the local market.
The County is accessible by road and air. It has an airstrip with airplanes going to Mandera town from the Wilson Airport four days a week; Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday. It’s a two hour flight with small business air craft carrying 30 to 50 passengers.
In the wake of devolution, Mandera town has attracted interested investors opening up the town with different investments e.g. Hotels and Resort centers, Transport, Banks, and other small businesses.
The County Government together with the National Government through hiring over 127 Kenya Police Reserves (KPR) who are mainly locals to supplement the number of security officers in the County, have managed to boost security surveillance across the county. The county also received vehicles to support security operations.
With peace, security and stability it is easy to encourage investors to invest in which will improve living standards and create wealth and employment opportunities in Mandera.
Born in the early '70s, Capt. Ali Ibrahim Roba studied in Mandera before joining the University of Nairobi for his undergraduate and post graduate degrees. He has degrees in Business Management and Strategic Planning. He studied in Kenya Utalii College, Delta Qualiflight School of Aviation in Fort Worth Texas, Kenya School of Flying among other institutions.
Captain Ali is a pilot with an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). He is an instructor, examiner, a KCAA Approved Instrument Rating Examiner, a Training and Check pilot and Ground Instructor of various aviation related subjects.
He worked for DAC Aviation International which is a Multinational Company between 2002 - 2012. He grew through the ranks starting as a co-pilot in 2002 to the position of the Director of Flight Operations (DFO) in charge of the core business of the company in over nine countries.
Captain Ali Roba has played a major role in re-structuring flight operations department and enhancing the efficiency of operational control functions to enviable levels within the general aviation industry in Kenya.
Determined to use his knowledge and professional experience and a desire to make a difference in the lives of his county, Captain Roba offered himself for the gubernatorial position in the wake of devolution in Kenya. He was successfully elected as the governor of Mandera County.
The Captain is married with six children.
