  • H.E Daniel Waithaka Mwangi. Governor, Nyandarua County
H.E Daniel Waithaka Mwangi. Governor, Nyandarua County

Holder of Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree from the University of Nairobi, Hon. Daniel Waithaka Mwangi will go to the annals of history as the first Governor of Nyandarua County. An accomplished technocrat and businessman, H.E. the Governor has also done CPA (K) and CPS (K) and has worked as an accountant for a period spanning over 30 years. H.E. the governor first joined the Ministry of Co-operative Development in 1972 as a lecturer at the Co-operative College, Karen. He later joined Bell House Mwangi group of auditors as an auditor serving in both Nairobi and Nakuru.

He also worked for the Kenya Tea Development Authority (now Agency)- KTDA- as an accountant in charge of tea factories before joining Longman (K) Ltd as Chief Accountant.

H.E. the governor also served at the defunct National Pencil Company, formerly owned by businessman Pius Ngugi where he worked as the Chief Accountant. He later quit the firm to join private practice and co-founded Kaka Certified Accountants as partner. In 1980 the Hon. Governor co-founded Nyahururu Elite Schools with his wife. The Nyahururu Elite Schools that offer both primary and secondary education are some of the most successful and popular private schools in Kenya today.

H.E. the Governor is also an accomplished farmer in Ol’Kalou sub-county where he undertakes large-scale production of milk, fish and horticultural crops. Some of the farm produce is used by students in his schools while the rest is sold to the external markets.
H.E. the Governor is passionate about improving the dilapidated infrastructure in Nyandarua. He is particularly concerned that thousands of farmers have remained poor owing to poor marketing of their goods and also due to exploitation by the middlemen.

The governor is eager to see the revival of pyrethrum crop, streamline the marketing of potatoes, set up milk processing factories, and establish factories for value addition and job creation for the youth.
He is also concerned over poor road network, lack of piped water in homes and urban centers, lack of electricity especially in homes and institutions of learning, and lack of office space for the people working in Nyandarua County government. He says nothing will make him rest until all the mess is sorted out so that Nyandarua people-like their brothers in Central Kenya- can live in comfort and enjoy the fruits of their labour.
