History

The Rwanda Development Board is evidence that Rwanda is open for business. It is truly a one stop shop for all investors. The Rwanda Development Board was set up by bringing together all the government agencies responsible for the entire investor experience under one roof. This includes key agencies responsible for business registration, investment promotion, environmental clearances, privatization and specialist agencies which support the priority sectors of ICT and tourism as well as SMEs and human capacity development in the private sector.
 
The RDB is independent and influential. It reports directly to the President and is guided by a Board that includes all the key Ministers (e.g., finance, commerce, infrastructure, agriculture)
 
The RDB is built with global expertise. It is modeled on international best practice examples of Singapore and Costa Rica. It has advisory and hands-on support from global entrepreneurs and experts from Singapore Development Board, World Bank, IFC and the Office of Tony Blair. The RDB is here with you all through the process and is ready to show you that It is better to do business in Rwanda.

    MINING OVERVIEW Mining in Rwanda presents un exploited opportunities in ores, processing and diversification Rwanda’s main mineral exports are ores processed to extract tin, tantalum and tungsten and few gold and gemstones Mining is the second largest export in the Rwandan economy. In 2014, the sector generated about $210.6 Million of foreign exchange. All mineral exports from Rwanda are traceable through the tagging system currently accepted by the downstream buyers of the minerals.     Clare Akamanzi

    Clare Akamanzi is a Rwandan lawyer, public administrator, businesswoman and politician, who has served as the executive director and chief executive officer of the Rwanda Development Board, since 4 February 2017.The position is a cabinet-level appointment by the President of Rwanda. In the cabinet reshuffle of 31 August 2017, Akamanzi was retained in cabinet and she retained her portfolio.

    She began her career in 2004 in Geneva, Switzerland at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) headquarters. The government of Rwanda appointed her as a diplomat/special trade negotiator at the WTO. Later, she transferred to the Rwandan embassy in London, the United Kingdom as the commercial diplomat (commercial attaché).

    She returned to Rwanda in 2006 and was appointed Deputy Director General of the then Rwanda Investment and Export Promotion Agency (RIEPA) "before RDB was merged with other institutions in 2008". In 2008, Akamanzi became the Deputy Chief Executive Officer responsible for Business Operations and Services, at RDB. She later transitioned to being the Chief Operating Officer of the Rwanda Development Board. She then took study leave to pursue graduate studies in the United States.When she returned, she served as "Head of Strategy and Policy" in the President’s Office
