To spearhead participative, transformative, equitable and sustainable development through efficient systems to achieve quality life for allHistory Wajir is a Borana word that means coming together, bequeathed to this part of the country because of the different clans and pastoral communities that used to congregate in areas around Wajir town to water their animals from the abundant and dependable shallow wells that characterize the general land geomorphology.

Due to its centrality to all major town in the region, With its abundant water resources and shallow wells and high human traffic, the British officially established Wajir Town in 1912, to serve as their colonial headquarters. The town Wajir town is now one of the oldest in Kenya after Malindi and Mji wa Kale in Mombasa. Its Centennial Anniversary was marked in 2012 with week longweek-long celebrations amid much pomp and colour.Our Mandate The County Government of Wajir as per Article 174 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 is mandated to a carry out exclusive, concurrent and residual functions. Our operations are not however mutually exclusive from those of the national government as we work in close cooperation and consultation with one other.

Currently the national government is playing a facilitating role while the County Government of Wajir is adopting the implementation function in the following key areas: Agriculture Health Pollution Control Cultural activities, public entertainment & Amenities Transport Animal control and welfare Trade development and regulation Early Childhood Education, village polytechnics, homecraft & childcare centres County planning and development Natural resources environmental conservation County Public Works & Services Fire fighting & disaster management Control of drugs & pornography Local participation through coordination of decentralized units.

    Prospecting Minerals Mining: Limestone, Oil and Precious stones In 1912, Wajir had been earmarked as a suitable location for a cement factory as it sits on massive deposits of limestone. Local entrepreneurs are already tapping into this resource, albeit using outdated methods, by crudely burning the limestone and producing whitewash which is then mixed with sand and used for construction. This method produces a crude but effective and cheap cement variety. This cement has been used by the local communities for over a century as witnessed by old town houses and mosques still in existence.     Ahmed has distinguished himself as a brilliant mind. A strong advocate for devolution as the right prescription that will reverse years of marginalization of the county. He is passionate about steering the County's development with special interest in women, youth and children and addressing the root causes of food security, poverty, illiteracy, infrastructure while strengthening peace and cohesion.

    H.E. Ahmed Abdullahi is the immediate Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Industrial Estates Limited (K.I.E).

    He is married with four children.
