The county’s health sector is being revived from many years of slow progress from the central governance system. The County government has embarked on strategies to trail the sector to meet international standards. Among the objectives of the Ministry of Health is to create dispensaries whose proximity is five kilometers to meet the WHO standards. The ministry is also working closely with the vision 2030 and the millennium development goals.
The county is currently fighting with the problem of mortality in its bid to upgrade the hospital into an ultra modern referral base Most of the common causes of morbidity and mortality are communicable diseases (malaria, pneumonia, TB, diarrhea, skin disease, HIV/AIDS and enteric fever). A flagship project for a Mother—Baby center toreduce child mortality is seeking for donors and grants. Other investment opportunities in the sector include the procurement medical technology equipment e.g. X—Ray machines, Scanners etc
The objective of West Pokot is to create a platform for informed decision making; create an environment for robust economic development; building social cohesion and further ensuring that within the county we realize our vision of working together in development and growth. The Plan contains programmes and projects designed with great consideration to promoting equitable distribution of resources within our county
