INSPIRATION
I grew up in a township called Nyanga, located about 260km north east of Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe. I am the sixth born in a family of 9 children. My Mom was a teacher, and unlike here in Canada, teachers in Zimbabwe get paid only once a month. So month end was a special time in our household. We weren't well off, but once in a while, at month end, my mom could afford to buy a meat pie as a treat. She would cut it into 9 pieces to make sure each one of us will get a taste. And it is that taste that stayed with me all these years.
When I moved to Canada, I couldn't find anything like the Zimbabwean Meat pie on the market. I only remembered how it tasted, so delicious, so flaky, just gooey savory goodness. So I set out to make one. I experimented a number of times until I achieved the taste, thus Mnandi was born. I hope you enjoy this little piece of Zimbabwe"
